WE’RE RECRUITING NEW TRUSTEES!

Trustees are critical to ensuring the charitable sector runs effectively and sustainably, as well as bringing skills and diversity to organisations. If you’re interested in lending your talents and experience to a charity, we’d love to hear from you.

We are currently looking to recruit five new trustees to our current Board of Directors.

WHO IS LCR PRIDE FOUNDATION?

We are LCR Pride Foundation, Liverpool City Region’s LGBTQ+ charity. We’re working to make the Liverpool City Region the most LGBTQ+ friendly region in the UK. We champion the rights of LGBTQ+ people living in and visiting the region. We fight to highlight the daily barriers they face and create an inclusive culture for all to enjoy and participate in, through a diverse programme of initiatives, campaigns and events, including Pride in Liverpool and the annual March with Pride.

WHERE WE ARE NOW?

The Foundation is committed to working in partnership and creating the infrastructure across the City Region to make a difference in the everyday lives of people who are LGBTQ+

Now, more than ever, the LGBTQ+ community needs space, support and visibility. Coming together as a community, alongside our allies, to unite in solidarity and stand against rising hate, discrimination and prejudice towards LGBTQ+ people and other marginalised communities, has never been more vital.

However, the landscape for charities like ours has never been more challenging, with competition for grant funding higher than ever, events being impacted by rising industry supplier costs of around 20-30% and only 0.1% of total charitable income in the UK (10p in every £100) being received by LGBTQ+ charities and community groups.

Right now, we need to strengthen our Board, to ensure we continue to deliver on our core purposes as a charity, which are:

  • bringing people together,
  • providing safe spaces for fun, culture and activism
  • celebrating the very best of our community
  • amplifying the voices of community groups and individuals

WHERE WE’RE GOING

We are developing a new strategy that will ensure we are fit for the future, can do more to support LGBTQ+ people in the city region and that we are able to continue to deliver our flagship events in a sustainable way that also meets the needs of our communities.

We are seeking trustees who would like to be part of this exciting journey and shaping and supporting the future of LCR Pride Foundation. If we’re to achieve the goals we set ourselves, we need your help!

WHO WE’RE LOOKING FOR

We are particularly interested in hearing from people with experience in any of the following areas:

  • Finance/ Accounting
  • Fundraising / Grant funding / Philanthropy & giving
  • Training and development
  • IT and technology
  • Sales and income generation

Although this represents a ‘wish list’ of experience which will help us grow, we value professional and lived experience equally and are keen to hear from as wide a range of people as possible.

We know that our leadership team does not yet fully reflect the diversity of the LGBTQ+ community in Liverpool City Region and so we are particularly keen to hear from people from groups that are not yet represented, or are more under-represented – including: Trans, People Of Colour (POC), people with disabilities and LGBTQ+ people and allies from the wider region.

While Board members do not have to identify as LGBTQ+, it is vital that they have a good understanding of the challenges faced by LGBTQ+ people in the Liverpool City Region today and share our passion for improving the lives and experiences of all in the community.

WHAT’S INVOLVED?

Our role as Trustees is predominantly to:

  • Ensure the Foundation is properly run and on a strong financial footing
  • Developing business plans and strategies which allows us to grow, prosper and reach more people
  • Developing policies which protect and support our staff and beneficiaries.
  • Making the tough calls and big decisions that come to define our organisation.
  • Representing the organisation locally and nationally in a positive and forward facing manner.

We are currently a very small team so you will also get involved in some ‘business as usual’ operational activities, depending on your interests, skills and backgrounds. As a minimum, you will be expected to commit to:

  • Bi-Monthly Board Meetings, which usually take place on Monday evenings for 1.5 hours.
  • Bi-Monthly Project Meetings, which are 30 minute catch-ups on current projects and actions.
  • Representing the Foundation on an ad hoc basis at events run by other organisations (typically once or twice per year).
  • Regular input into discussion and decision-making outside formal board meetings where absolutely necessary
  • Attending Foundation events, providing support where needed and enjoying them!

WHAT’S IN IT FOR ME?

Being a Trustee is hard work, but it can also be very rewarding. In addition to working to make LCR the most LGBTQ+ friendly city in the UK, you’ll also be able to:

  • Enhance your CV: Trustee roles provide you with direct leadership experience which can be hard to get through ‘traditional’ career routes.
  • Make Connections: Expand your network by meeting new people from across a wide variety of organisations
  • Learn new things:  Trustees of small charities are rarely specialists. Although you’ll bring your own skills to the table, you’ll also learn new ones
  • Have fun! All of our events are about celebrating the very best of our communities, so there is lots of fun to be had!

The role of trustee is unpaid, but we do pay reasonable travel or subsistence expenses.

HOW DO I APPLY?

Firstly, send recruitment@lcrpride.co.uk an email expressing your interest, with your CV (or up-to-date LinkedIn profile link) and a very brief description of why you’re interested in becoming a Trustee. We are happy to accept video submissions. This should be before Monday 12th May 2025.

Our Trustees will set up a 30 minute informal video call with you (via Zoom) to get to know you a bit better, at a time that suits you. You’ll also have a chance to find out more about what it’s like to be a Trustee, meet the wider team, so you can decide whether it’s for you and we can see if you might be a good fit.

If you are invited to join the board, you will also get the chance to shadow a board meeting before signing up to make sure you’re still happy and comfortable.
