On December 11th last year we posted a statement in relation to an incident on social media that had been reported to Merseyside Police and highlighted to the LCR Pride Foundation, as the city region’s LGBT+ organisation.
You can read our original statement here.
As the police investigation and legal proceedings regarding this incident have concluded, we are now able to address concerns from members of our community in relation to the defendant in the case being the recipient of an LCR Pride Award in 2019.
The LCR Pride Foundation Board agrees that the incident directly contradicts the mission and values of our organisation and we can confirm that the award winner has agreed that it is appropriate to return their 2019 award. We have also taken the decision, with the support of the category sponsor, to remove all publicity materials related to this award winner from our platforms.
We remain committed to supporting those in our community living with HIV and working together with our partners, such as Sahir House, to eradicate stigma and misinformation.
If you have been affected by this incident or would like to talk about support available, please contact Sahir House, Merseyside’s HIV support, training and information charity on: info@sahir.uk.com or 0151 237 3989
