#FilmFridays 29th May: The Wedding Car and Count on Me

Film with Pride’s online programme returns this week with two brand new short films, The Wedding Car and Count On Me. The films will be available to stream from the Film with Pride Facebook Page from 5pm on Friday 29th May until midnight on the same day.

On Saturday 30th May, we’ll also be sharing our discussions with the films writers and directors, over on the LCR Pride Foundation news pages.

The Wedding Car

Running time: 11 minutes approx

Best friends Barry and Rob are on their way to Rob’s wedding. But when their car breaks down, cracks begin to show in Rob’s happiness. Barry is concerned about his friend but nothing he says seems to help. Meanwhile, several events along the way further unnerve Rob, as everyone assumes their relationship and questions Rob’s relationship with his bride-to-be Becky.

Written by Catherine Kerr-Phillips and directed by Gareth E. Evans, The Wedding Car explores the relationship between two best friends and the pressure that the communities we live in place on individuals, to the detriment of their happiness.

Count on Me

Running time: 12 minutes approx

A glamorous drag queen sits alone in a small semi-lit changing room. The show is about to start. Her shiny dress, scathing jokes, and radiant smile are the perfect alter-ego, the ultimate disguise. But underneath the heavy make-up, her eyes tell a different story. 

Written and directed by Matteo Mauroni and starring Thom Leon, a real life drag performer known by the stage name of Vanity Von Glow Count On Me explores the relationship between person and the stage persona. Is the drag persona a mask used to conceal vulnerabilities, or is it a tool through which to express their true self?
