The reality of Pride events across the country is that events are becoming increasingly more expensive to run.
Key Factors include:
- Corporate Sponsor Withdrawal: Several corporations have scaled back, paused, or cancelled their sponsorship of Pride events and DEl initiatives, following a “confusing scramble in the private sector” and rising social challenges.
- Economic Pressures: High inflation and rising infrastructure costs made it difficult for smaller, volunteer-led committees to fund the safety and logistical requirements of large parades.
- Security Concerns: In some cases, increased security risks made hosting public events difficult.
The reality is we need significant funding to ensure that we have an event that is both safe and worthy of a City of ours.
