Celebrities Come Together To Increase Awareness Around Modern Slavery

Stand with survivors

Famous faces from television, film, sport and theatre, have teamed up with Causeway for a major new modern slavery campaign. BAFTA-nominee Julie Hesmondhalgh, actor and stand-up comedian Kerry Godliman, chef and broadcaster Andi Oliver, and Call the Midwife and EastEnders favourite Cliff Parisi are just some of the celebrities supporting #StandWithSurvivors.

The campaign has launched to mark Anti-Slavery Week 2024, which is taking place from Monday 14th to Sunday 20th October.  It aims to increase awareness around modern slavery, and educate the public about the signs to look out for which indicate somebody may be experiencing modern slavery or human trafficking.

Throughout Anti-Slavery Week, Causeway are bringing together staff, supporters, ambassadors, partners, service users and these very famous faces, and showing how they ‘stand with survivors’, and how you can too. A special celebrity video has been produced as part of this.

Edwin Buckley, Head of Communications and Engagement at Causeway, said: “We are so grateful to have our supporters, partners, staff and these famous faces coming together for our #StandWithSurvivors campaign.  Modern slavery does not discriminate, anybody could find themselves affected by it, and statistics show it continues to be on the rise in the UK.  The campaign is encouraging everybody to ‘stand with survivors’, and show our allyship, care and support for those who have been, or who are currently being, affected by modern slavery.”

The celebrities backing the campaign include RuPaul’s Drag Race UK winner and Pride Classical host Danny Beard, Mr Bates vs the Post Office‘s Julie Hesmondhalgh, Great British Menu‘s Andi Oliver, After Life‘s Kerry Godliman, EastEnders‘ Maisie Smith, Ugly Betty‘s Derek Riddell and Call the Midwife‘s Cliff Parisi.
