LCR Pride Foundation last week (29th April) joined with other members of the UK Pride Organisers Network (UKPON) to urge the Charity Commission to reverse its decision to provide charity status to the LGB Alliance.
The organisation was awarded charity status on 20th April. In an open letter to the commission, initially signed by 51 Pride organisations from across the UK, UKPON cited the statement of one of its member organisations, Pride in London, which said: “LGB Alliance is seen as a political campaign organisation with their main aim to remove trans people from out LGBT+ community and block trans rights.
“LGB Alliance has campaigned against the Gender Recognition Act and called for the equality act to be reviewed around ‘same-sex’ rights. There is substantial evidence across social media platforms of their views towards the trans community.”
LCR Pride Foundation unequivocally supports all LGBT+ people and it recognises the pain and fear that the Charity Commission’s decision has caused to the entire community, in particular our trans and non binary siblings.
Andi Herring, LCR Pride Foundation Founder and CEO, said: “We stand in solidarity with UKPON members, the trans and wider LGBT+ community in condemning the Charity Commission’s decision to give charity status to the LGB Alliance.
“The LGB Alliance does not promote equality, diversity or human rights, as stated in its organisational purposes. In fact it works directly against all of these things.
“We urge the whole LGBT+ community to stand up against this decision, by emailing your local MP, sharing your concerns with the Charity Commission via social media and using their online form.”
