As LCR Pride Foundation celebrates LGBT+ youth in our community and the services that support them, Film with Pride’s #FilmFriday has two fantastic short films focusing on the experience of young LGBT+ people, their friends and family.
1 Year shares a milestone in Michael Causer Foundation Trustee, Ben Hodge’s transition journey, while BETTER explores the complex relationship between a mum and her young son as he questions his gender identity.
The films will be available to stream from the Film with Pride Facebook Page from 5pm on Friday 19th June until midnight on the same day – make sure you don’t miss out!

Better (12A)
Families, morals and societal norms are challenged with the arrival of a new controversial medical procedure. Jamie is a young mother who shares a strong bond with her 10 year old son, Max. Max is an effeminate child exploring his gender identity, for which he is extensively bullied at school. As the bullying becomes increasingly severe, Jamie fears for her son’s immediate and long term future.
Through her neighbour, Jamie is introduced to Refine, a new private medical facility. Refine offers a new procedure that can alter personality traits and in Max’s case, heteronormalise him. Jamie is faced with a near impossible personal and ethical dilemma. Should she allow Max to undergo this procedure in order to protect him, or should she continue to encourage him to follow his natural inclinations and accept a more trying and complex future?
