When LCR Pride Foundation recently caught up with co-owner John Kenny he hinted at exciting plans to mark the eagerly anticipated return of the much-loved Masquerade – and he certainly did not disappoint.
After three months of refurbishment work, The Masquerade will reopen on Friday 28th August at 6pm and will be back seven days a week. Its long-serving hostess Aunty Marlene, will return for the whole of re-opening weekend with her trusted sidekick and DJ, KJ, ready to welcome customers back.
The full line-up of live entertainment for Friday, Saturday and Sunday will be revealed on The Masquerade’s Twitter and Facebook pages, and football fans will also be able to catch the Women’s and Men’s Football Charity Shield finals live on the bar’s large screens on Saturday afternoon.
There will be some changes, due COVID-19 restrictions, with only seated customers permitted inside the venue and social distancing rules in place. However, there will be an overspill bar outside all day Saturday and Sunday where people can sit and drink, or wait for tables inside to become available.
Speaking ahead of the opening, John said: “We are really pleased to announce that the Mazzie will be back seven days a week from Friday 28th August. We want the community to have a bar that is open every day, as The Masquerade always was in the past.
“We’re also over the moon to have Marlene joining us, as she worked as the resident hostess for Phil and Jeff for nearly 20 years – we couldn’t re-open without her being here too.
“We look forward to welcoming everyone in, but ask that people be patient with us as we try to navigate through the COVID-19 restrictions. Entrance will be on a strictly first come, first served basis with no tickets or pre-booking of tables, as we do not want to disappoint anyone.
“When we’re full we won’t be able to let more people in, but the outside bar and seating will be there to allow people to wait or drink outside all day Saturday and Sunday.”
From Friday 28th August Masquerade will be open from Sunday to Thursday (12pm to midnight) and on Friday and Saturday (12pm to 2am).
